Another key step on the (long, slow and somewhat tortuous) route to our Certification Manager, Steve, getting his Farmers Weekly tractor jumper has been achieved.
The wool has arrived, courtesy of the lovely Juliet Morris at Ystrad Organics, who is also one of our Twitter friends.
Our resident knitter, Certification Officer Katie Owens, is gearing up to start this crucial piece of work. I believe, though, that a mini version is being completed first for Katie’s God son, which should be complete by next week.
It’s all getting quite exciting. Interestingly, the enquiries about getting copies of the pattern are still flowing in. It makes you wonder whether the FW team should be looking at getting an updated version done. They could probably double sales of the magazine for a week!
Here’s our wool, ready and waiting to be turned into the finest knitted creation OF&G will ever have seen…

We will, of course, keep you updated.

Any regular readers will recall that we had some fun when our Certification Manager, Steve Clarkson, was the lucky winner of a Farmers Weekly knitting pattern. Oh did we laugh.
We promised then that the jumper would be made and he would be forced to model it. Well, I’m afraid that hasn’t happened. The reason being that Mr C managed to stymie us by failing to obtain the wool – a task we foolishly left in his hands. So, we’ve taken it out of his hands.
Our CEO, Richard Jacobs, is a man who appreciates the value of a good woolly pully, so he’s authorised a mission to locate the necessary yarn, have the jumper knitted and ensure (on pain of the removal of hot drink privileges, if necessary) that the man of the moment is photographed in it from as many angles as possible.
The excitement at this prospect is tangible in the office.
Oh and to all those who have contacted us trying to track down a copy of the pattern, we have that in hand. It’s being scanned (with the permission of the good folk at FW) and will be emailed soon. We hope you get as much pleasure out of it as we are!

I’ve suspected for some time that I’m working with a bunch of jokers. However we now have official acknowledgment that this is, indeed, a fact.
When an impromptu “best” joke competition was instigated by Farmers Weekly among the denizens of Twitter, it turns out to have been none other than our very own Certification Manager, Steve Clarkson, who came up with the “best” offering.
And his prize? A stunning Farmers Weekly tractor knitting pattern. Now, in many offices this would be filed under amusing and end up in a draw. But not at Organic Farmers & Growers. Oh no. Among our multi-talented team is a master knitter (is there a proper word for that?) in the form of Certification Officer, Katie Owens. As I write Katie is obtaining Steve’s measurements and planning colour schemes. Obviously when we have the finished product Steve will be forced to model it for all to see.
You won’t be surprised to hear that it wasn’t this offering from Steve that won the joke competition:
What do you get when you cross a rooster and a cow? Cockadoodlemoo!
No, the effort that tickled the fancy of the FW team was:
What kind of milk comes from a forgetful cow? Milk of Amnesia.
Are you laughing out loud?
