Cut Flower Cultivation: Propagation

This course will focus on the theory and practical skills of propagating plants for flowers and foliage. We will look at the facilities needed for propagation, and do some hands-on work on vegetative propagation through taking cuttings, dividing tubers and using suckers.

You will go home with a small range of material for your own garden.

9.30 – 10.45: Propagation theory

11.15 – 12.30: Foraging for different materials for vegetative propagation

1.30 – 3.00: Taking cuttings, dividing tubers, taking suckers, etc

3.30 – 5.00: A closer look at tools: how to sharpen your knives, secateurs

This will be a practical, hands-on day: after a session in the classroom about the theory of propagation, we will be spending the rest of the day finding appropriate material for propagation, and subsequently carrying out several types of propagation activities. We finish the day with a closer look at tools, and you will have a chance to learn how to deep-clean and sharpen your knives and secateurs.

Please bring your own knives and secateurs!
